The Metagnosis Project

Greeting Stewards,

In our very first symposium back in 2021, we had the honor of having Allison Coffelt as one of our keynote speakers. Allison is an author and non-clinician currently completing Columbia University’s narrative medicine program.

Allison has reached out to us and asked us to promote a project that she is working on that may be of interest to you all called the Metagnosis Project. Alongside Danielle Spencer, Narrative Medicine faculty at Columbia and author of Metagnosis: Revelatory Narratives of Health and Identity (Oxford University Press 2021).

We're excited to announce The Metagnosis Project, which is a follow-up book to Metagnosis: Revelatory Narratives of Health and Identity (Oxford University Press 2021). What is metagnosis? It’s when you suddenly learn something new about yourself–something that has been there all along. For example, you learn as an adult that you have ADHD or you learn your father is not your genetic parent.

Our new project hopes to highlight stories from individuals who have experienced metagnosis. We’re gathering contact information from people who would like to learn more. Folks can sign up here (www.metagnosis.org). We’ll reach out to individuals directly to ask to hear about their experiences and offer a free writing workshop.

Additionally, do not forget to sign up for our second forum of the year where we dive deeper into bridging the gap between stories and our healthcare system through radical hope!

Warmly,

Asheanna
