Promoting Health Equity & Resiliency in Trauma-Affected Communities
Greeting Stewards!
We would like to share a podcast episode from the American Journal of Managed Care that homes in on the topic of promoting health equity and resiliency in trauma-affected communities. Appearing on this episode is Reverend Paul Abernathy from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who has “gained national attention for his work on promoting health and resiliency in trauma-affected communities, which face disparities in access and accessibility of care, and medical mistrust” through his project the Neighborhood Resilience Project.
The project first started with the intention of taking care of those in need through fulfilling essentials such as food or clothes. But Reverend Abernathy says, “what really we learned was how deeply trauma was affecting life in our communities,” which led him to where he is today with the promotion of health equity and resilience.
If you listen to this 15-minute podcast episode, we’d love for you to share your thoughts. Just send an email to steward@umn.edu. And, soon, we’ll be announcing a new online forum where we’ll have the chance for more interactive sharing of thoughts and resources, so, stay tuned!
Warmly,
Asheanna
