Comics & Their Role in Health Narratives

Greeting Stewards,

When most people think of storytelling and narrative, we simply think of oral stories or written stories. However, visual storytelling is an engaging, compelling, and growing genre, including comics!

An article from the Los Angeles Review of Books touches on comics and how they can explore health narratives. Comics are a great way to communicate stories because the colors and images capture our attention. In the medical setting, this can be vital because “graphic-medicine narratives provide a medium for them (patients) to better recognize and communicate their symptoms and needs.”

This is an interesting read that dives deeper into the history of comics and their role in medicine.

Lastly, our 2023 forums, exploring the theme of “Radical Hope,” are on the dates of June 13 July 11, August 8, September 12, October 10 and November 14 from 6pm to 8pm CST via Zoom. Asheanna
