SmartTalk Radio: A Deep Dive Into Narrative Medicine & COVID-19
Greeting Stewards,
We hope that all of you are doing well as spring unfolds (or tries to). We’d like to inform you all that our 2022 forum series, “Uncertain Together,” will begin in June! Dates are set, and readings are in place for the six forums, with each reading having something to tell us, directly or indirectly, about this shared experience of the pandemic. It is now just a matter of you all signing up! Please check out our Forum page on our website for further information.
In other news narrative news (and if you participated in last year’s forums or symposium, you know that we value storytelling and the power of narratives), an online radio called SmartTalk invites a doctor to come and talk about narrative medicine and the role it has in healing. Dr.Andre Lijoi speaks of the uncertainty that COVID-19 has caused saying, “there has been no other time in modern history, when close attention to these stories has been more important in this crisis perpetuated by COVID-19.”
We know that the pandemic has isolated friends and families, but it has also interfered with connections between doctors and patients. The stories told by patients to doctors through narrative medicine sessions helps foster stronger connections while building resilience and energizing and empowering people through a common mission.
We hope you will listen in on this mini radio session and learn more about narrative medicine from the perspective of a doctor! More and more providers these days are learning that storytelling is vital, especially in today’s pandemic world.
Warmly,
Asheanna
