Narrative Health & Short Films

Greetings Stewards,

Here at PAHS we have talked about personal narratives and narrative health in the form of writing, podcasts or even YouTube videos as a route for digital storytelling. But what about short films?

A recent study in Melbourne, Australia analyzed data from a  2014 project called “Finding Our Way'' which looked at the personal narratives of individuals from diverse backgrounds. The goal of the study was to understand and gain insight into the mental health journeys of those in culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.

At the heart of the project were nine short films created from the four-day digital storytelling workshop. Collectively, these films “highlighted the significance of cultivating self-understanding and resilience, particularly for those who arrived as refugees and faced culture shock.”

It is so exciting to see more research on narratives and storytelling in relation to health! Have you seen any studies that may be related to this? Let us know over on Circle!

Warmly,

Asheanna
